The National Institute for International Education is hosting a year-end party for foreign students receiving scholarships from the institution on Wednesday.
Students who get scholarships from the institution’s Global Korea Scholarship program are invited to the event, held at the National Institute for International Education headquarters in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. Select students that excelled in their academics will receive awards.
Under the Global Korea Scholarship program, the institute provides scholarships to foreign students who wish to study undergraduate and graduate programs in Korea. A total of 316 undergraduate students and 1,094 graduate students are receiving scholarships from the program this year.
Awards will also be given to educational institutions and faculty that helped the scholarship students.
Those who finished their studies in Korea while receiving the Global Korea Scholarship will attend the event and talk about their experiences and offer advice for current students.
The year-end event has been hosted since 2008. Wednesday's event marks the first time since the pandemic that the party is being held face-to-face.
“Studying abroad isn’t easy, and I hope the experience in Korea will become a valuable asset for students and help them take on a leading role to encourage global cooperation between Korea and other countries,” said Lee Joo-ho, minister of education.
