SK hynix will introduce new high-performing chips and technologies at the upcoming CES trade show, including the latest solid-state drive (SSD).

Called PS1010, the SSD features 176-layer 4D NAND flash technology. The read speed increased 130 percent, while writing speed rose by 48 percent compared to the previous-generation of products.

The chip is also 75 percent more efficient, which will help customers reduce costs to run servers and carbon emissions, the company said.

“We’re proud to launch PS1010, an ultrahigh-performance product with a self-developed controller and firmware, at CES 2023, the world’s largest technology show,” said Yun Jae-yeun, head of SK hynix’s NAND Product Planning. “This product will solve the pain point of our server-chip customers, while paving the way for stronger competitiveness in NAND business for us.”

Also on display will be HBM3, an advanced type of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chip, and Compute Express Link (CXL)-based memory capable of flexible expansion of memory capacity and performance. CXL is an industry-standard interconnection that boosts the efficiency of data processing by maintaining the memory coherency of data stored in different locations.

SK hynix will also present new thermal-management technology for servers. The so-called immersion cooling technology is designed to lower the temperature by directly submerging data servers into cooling oil. The technology has been developed by SK enmove.

The chipmaker is one of eight SK companies that will share a booth at the annual event, which is scheduled to kick off on Jan. 5 in Las Vegas.

On Tuesday, Samsung Electronics announced that it will release the upgraded 43-inch Odyssey Neo G7 gaming monitor in the Korean market on Jan. 2.

Its global debut will be made on Jan. 5 during the CES.

The monitor uses micro LEDs as back lights, which are one fortieth the size of existing LEDs. It will also come with Samsung Gaming Hub, a streaming game platform linkage service, that allows users to play cloud games without having to connect to a separate device or storage space.

The monitor will be sold for 1.25 million won ($983).
