Girl group NewJeans dominated domestic music charts with its newly-released single “OMG” on Monday, following the pre-released song “Ditto.”
“OMG” is a song that contains a message about the relationship that NewJeans feels in a slightly unfamiliar background this winter, according to the group’s agency ADOR under HYBE.
NewJeans ranked first and second in the “Top 100” of Melon, a domestic music chart and the largest streaming service for music in Korea, as of 7 p.m. on Monday, the day of the release of the new single.
“Ditto,” released last month, ranked first and “OMG” ranked second. The group's debut song “Hype Boy” also retook fourth place.
The pre-orders for “OMG” were tallied at 800,000 copies, far exceeding the 450,000 copies the group recorded with its last release. Physical sales volume exceeded 430,000 copies as of 7 p.m. according to Hanteo Chart, beating the first week sales of 310,000 copies recorded with the group's previous work.
“It ['OMG'] tells the story of a strange sense of distance, caution and unfamiliarity that coexist on the other of the desire to get closer to someone,” said ADOR in a press release Tuesday. “Following the group’s previous work, this time we focused on the narrative of new relationships.”
NewJeans made a sensation in the music industry last year with their debut songs “Attention” and “Hype Boy.”
