Park Chan-wook was nominated for the Best Director award at the British Academy Film Awards (Baftas) Thursday local time. Park’s film, “Decision to Leave,” was also nominated for Best Film Not In The English Language.

Park was nominated along with Edward Berger of “All Quiet on the Western Front," Martin McDonagh for “The Banshees of Inisherin," Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” Todd Field for “Tar” and Gina Prince-Bythewood for “The Woman King.”

In the best film in a foreign language category, "Decision to Leave" was named along with “All Quiet on the Western Front" from Germany, “Argentina, 1985” from Argentina, “Corsage" from Germany and “The Quiet Girl" from Ireland.

Attention is being paid to whether Park will continue the legacy of Korean films at foreign awards following fellow auteur Bong Joon-ho and actor Yoon Yeo-jung.

Bong’s “Parasite” (2019) previously won the Best Film Not In The English Language award at the 73rd BAFTAs, and at the awards ceremony the following year, Yoon became the first Korean actor to win the Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in the Korean-American production “Minari.”

The BBC has selected “Decision to Leave” as one of the “20 Best Movies of 2022,” and after its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last year, while British media outlet The Guardian gave the film the highest score of five stars.

The 76th BAFTAs will be held on Feb. 20 at 4 a.m. Korean Standard Time.
