Worry about driving at night due to poor vision?

Hyundai Mobis has developed new headlamps that show real-time road situations on the road and even virtual crosswalks for pedestrians to prevent nighttime accidents.

The HD Lighting System is a technology that visualizes road signs in text or shapes on the road.

For instance, the lamp shows an "Under Construction" sign when there is road construction ahead and how far the car is away from the site.

A camera sensor also recognizes pedestrians and shows a virtual crosswalk on the road when the car stops.

The new system has about 25,000 micro LEDs with a width thinner than a human hair at 0.04 millimeters. The number is 250 times more than the number of LEDs in traditional headlamps with 80 to 120 LEDs.

The higher number of LEDs means the lamp can be controlled more precisely, allowing it to locate objects and pedestrians accurately, Mobis said.

"In the era of autonomous driving, software technology capable of integrating numerous auto components into a single device will be more important than ever," Mobis said in a release Thursday. "Hyundai Mobis is taking the lead in the development of cutting-edge lamps and securing technology capable of controlling them."
