Standard Chartered Bank rewards new customers

Standard Chartered Bank Korea is offering special interest rates for new subscribers to "Jaeil EZ Accounts." [STANDARD CHARTERED BANK KOREA]

Standard Chartered Bank Korea organized a promotional event for new clients who sign up for its "Jaeil EZ Account," offering interest rates of up to 3.6 percent per year to first-time customers.

The event also offers prizes through a lottery among customers who open the Jaeil EZ Account and complete the event application by the end of May. The first prize is 1 million won, three second-place prizes of 500,000 won, ten third-place prizes of 100,000 won of Shinsegae gift certificates, and 100 fourth-place prizes of two Starbucks coupons.

The Jaeil EZ Account guarantees a basic interest rate of 2.6 percent for the daily balance. On top of that, newcomers will be offered a special rate of 1 percentage point for six months from the date they open the account, without any additional conditions or amount restrictions. Also, miscellaneous charges are exempted including internet and mobile banking transfer fees and withdrawal fees for automated devices outside of business hours.

"After raising the basic interest rate of the Jaeil EZ Account to 2.6 percent in December last year, the number of subscribers soared and the total balance has recently surpassed 1 trillion won as well," said Bae Soon-chang, head of SC Korea's savings products department. "We are pushing to come up with various products for customers to deposit their extra funds conveniently."
