President Yoon Suk Yeol on Thursday designated Oct. 2 as a temporary holiday to extend the upcoming Chuseok holiday to a six-day break in a move to revitalize the local economy.

윤석열 대통령이 목요일 (8월 31일) 내수경기 활성화를 위해 10월 2일을 임시공휴일로 지정했다. 이로써 곧 다가올 추석연휴가 총 6일로 늘게 됐다.

"Oct. 2 will be designated as a temporary public holiday," Yoon said in a meeting on the economy and people's livelihood at the presidential office, calling to boost domestic tourism and lower prices ahead of Chuseok. Currently, Oct. 2 falls between the Chuseok harvest festival holiday and the National Foundation Day holiday.

윤석열 대통령은 용산청사에서 주재한 비상경제민생회의에서 “10월 2일을 임시공휴일로 지정하겠다”고 밝혔다. 그러면서 국내 관광 활성화를 위한 노력 그리고 추석을 앞둔 가격 안정화에 힘써달라고 당부했다. 10월 2일은 평일로 추석연휴와 개천절 사이에 끼어 있다.

This year's three-day Chuseok holiday lasts from Thursday, Sept. 28, to Saturday, Sept. 30. Oct. 2 is a Monday, followed by National Foundation Day on Tuesday, Oct. 3. By designating Oct. 2 as a temporary holiday, people will be able to enjoy an uninterrupted six-day break from Sept. 28 to Oct. 3.

올해 추석연휴는 3일로 9월 28일 목요일부터 9월 30일 토요일까지다. 10월 2일은 월요일인 평일이고 10월 3일 화요일은 개천절이다. 10월 2일을 임시공휴일로 지정함으로써 9월 28일부터 10월 3일까지 최대 6일 동안 쉴 수 있게 됐다.

Yoon said in the meeting that some 600,000 lodging discount coupons will be distributed, and highway tolls will be exempted during the holiday period. He also called to provide support for the agricultural, fishery and livestock industries.

윤 대통령은 회의에서 숙박 할인쿠폰 60만장 배포와 연휴 기간 고속도로 통행료 면제, 그리고 농축수산물 지원 방침도 밝혔다.

Yoon said the government will do its utmost to lower the prices of Chuseok-related goods by at least 5 percent on-year "to ensure that the people can have a bountiful holiday."

윤 대통령은 추석 성수품 가격은 지난해보다 적어도 5% 이상 낮춰서 국민이 넉넉한 명절을 보낼 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다고 말했다.

To this end, the supply of such products will be increased by the largest volume to date, and some 67 billion won ($50.6 million) worth of discounts on agricultural, fishery and livestock goods will be provided to help stabilize their prices.

정부는 추석 성수품 공급을 역대 최대 규모로 확대하고 670억원 규모의 농수축산물 제품 할인을 위해 약 670억원을 지원하겠다고 밝혔다.

Yoon said that the government will push to increase flights and simplify arrival procedures to encourage foreign tourists to visit the country and help vitalize the domestic economy. The government will also work to make mobile payments more accessible along with other means to attract tourists to Korea.

윤 대통령은 외국인 광광객 증가가 내수경기 활성화로 이어질 수 있도록 항공편 증편과 입국 절차 간소화를 추진하겠다고 말했다. 또한 정부는 모바일 페이의 편의성을 높이는 등 더 많은 관광객들이 한국을 찾을 수 있도록 노력할 예정이다.

Yoon addressed measures to counter the decline in domestic seafood consumption due to public concern over Japan's discharge of treated radioactive water from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

이날 회의에서는 망가진 일본의 후쿠시마 원전 오염수 방류에 따른 수산물 소비 위축에 대한 대책도 나왔다.

"We will promote the consumption of our seafood by allocating an additional 80 billion won in reserve funds this year," he said.

윤 대통령은 “올해 추가로 예비비 800억원을 배정해서 우리 수산물 소비를 촉진하겠다”라고 말했다.

He said the government will provide discounts of up to 60 percent on key seafood products and distribute so-called "Onnuri gift certificates." The Onnuri gift certificates were first released in 2009 as a means of supporting traditional markets in Korea. He said such measures will encourage the purchase of Korean seafood "cheaply and conveniently anywhere, online or in traditional markets."

그는 주요 수산물을 최대 60% 할인하고 온누리상품권 보급을 확대할 계획이다. 온누리상품권은 전통시장 지원대책으로 2009년 처음 발행됐다. 윤 대통령은 이번 대책으로 소비자들이 “온라인이든 전통시장든, 어디서든 저렴하고 편리하게” 국내 수산물을 구매할 수 있도록 지원하겠다고 말했다.
