S-Oil donated 470 million won ($354,316) for firefighters and their families, the oil refiner said Monday.
The donations will be used to fund medical treatments for firefighters who suffer from illness or injuries, scholarships for the children of those fallen on duty and awards for heroic firefighters.
S-Oil has been offering financial support for firefighters in medical bills, school tuition and more, while also holding annual award ceremonies and vacation programs since it set up the “Hero Firefighter Program” in 2006 with the National Fire Agency.
S-Oil has so far provided financial support worth 10 billion won for some 3,000 firefighters and family members over the past 18 years.
The donation ceremony was held that day at the National Fire Agency office building in Sejong, attended by S-Oil CEO Anwar A. Al-Hejazi, National Fire Agency Commissioner General Nam Hwa-yeong and Korea National Council on Social Welfare chief Kim Sung-yi.
“S-Oil will always remember and honor the sacrifices and courage of firefighters for their service to society,” said Al-Hejazi, adding that the company will “continue on with the Hero Firefighter Program to show our support for firefighters who always protect the public in all kinds of disasters despite harsh conditions.”
