Huawei Korea CEO Balian Wang hinted that the company might step up cooperation with LG Uplus, Korea's third-largest mobile carrier, calling it one of its "important global clients."

Wang's remarks came Wednesday while concerns over security risks surrounding the Chinese company linger, with the U.S. government reportedly urging Korea to reject Chinese technologies.

In a year-end meeting with reporters, Wang said Huawei is prepared to provide its technology and solutions to LG Uplus throughout their partnership.

Wang said Huawei has navigated through challenges this year amid geopolitical rifts, rising inflation and an economic slowdown.

The U.S. government has long accused Huawei, one of the world's leading vendors of 5G network equipment, of spying, saying the Chinese company can compromise the country's internet communications and steal sensitive information.

In response, LG Uplus, the only Korean carrier using Huawei's 5G equipment, has been saying the Chinese firm has proven its equipment's security.
