Landmark DDP's winter media facade show pays tribute to nature

The Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) started its famed media facade show, “Seoul Light DDP 2023 Winter,” on Thursday evening.

Hosted by the Seoul Design Foundation, “Seoul Light” is a biannual event held every autumn and winter, which sees the exterior of the silver spaceship-like building in Jung District, central Seoul, light up with media art every night.

Under the theme “Digital Nature,” this year's show features creative technology company Giantstep’s work “Digital Atlantis,” which depicts the beauty of nature, including the sea, forests and rocks, as well as a cityscape. The screening takes place on the stroke of each hour for 10 minutes from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Devsisters, the local game publisher behind the Cookie Run franchise, is screening its Christmas-themed content featuring the cookie characters for five minutes every hour from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

There will also be a New Year’s countdown on Dec. 31, from 11 p.m. until 1:30 a.m. the next day. For the first time, the DDP will launch 5,000 fireworks to welcome 2024.

“Seoul Light DDP 2023 Winter” ends Jan. 1, 2024. The show is open to the public for free.

Meanwhile, the foundation will host other holiday events at the DDP, such as an indoor Christmas market and photo op spots.
