Actors Kong Hyo-jin, Uhm Ji-won and Choi Soo-young, who is also a member of K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation, emptied out their wardrobes for a grand flea market held together with Bungaejangter, or Bunjang, one of the country's largest online secondhand trading apps, on Saturday in Seongsu-dong, eastern Seoul.

Some 2,000 people visited the offline secondhand flea market to go thrifting for around 1,000 fashionable items previously owned by the three celebrities, according to Bunjang. The company said it was Kong who approached them with the idea of holding the event to raise awareness of sustainable alternatives to consuming fashion to mark the upcoming Earth Day, which is April 22.

The event kicked off at 1 p.m. and was to run until 8 p.m. However, about 80 percent of items sold out within two hours of the opening, according to Bunjang.

The company added that it was able to save more than one ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions through the offline event.

Following the success of the flea market, Bunjang said it will organize an online version of the event on April 24. More items that were previously owned by the three celebrities will go on sale beginning at 2 p.m.

“Bunjang will continue introducing a different kind of flea market to make sure secondhand becomes a new standard of consumption,” said Choi Jae-wha, CEO of Bunjang.
