A documentary film on the friendship between star giant panda Fu Bao and her zookeeper is set to be released sometime in September or October, content agency Acommz said Monday.

The film is currently in production under the tentative title “Hello, Grandpa.” Grandpa is a nickname for Kang Cheol-won, the 55-year-old zookeeper at Everland in Gyeonggi who took care of Fu Bao and her family.

Fu Bao, born in Korea in 2020, had to move back to China earlier this month, following China’s mandate that giant pandas must return to the country at the age of four regardless of where they were born.

“Hello, Grandpa” follows the story of the panda and Kang from the day they met up until their farewell. It also includes interviews of Fu Bao’s fans.

The film will be an animated documentary, which will “imagine Fu Bao’s emotions through animation.”

“We hope to give Fu Bao fans a gift to remember, and consolation and happiness to the zookeepers through this film,” Acommz said in a press release.
