Korean American filmmaker Lee Sung-jin wins Emmy for 'Beef'

Korean American director Lee Sung-jin won an Emmy Award for Best Director for his work on the Netflix original series "Beef" during the 75th edition of the ceremony Tuesday.
 
Lee won Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the annual Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

"Beef," released on Netflix in April last year, is about two Asian Americans who get into a beef, or an altercation, with each other after a car accident and end up nearly ruining each other's lives.
 
Korean American actor Steven Yeun played Danny Cho, opposite actor and comedian Ali Wong played Amy Lau. "Beef" topped Netflix's top 10 charts for five consecutive weeks upon release and garnered rave reviews.
 
"Beef" grabbed three Golden Globes earlier this month and also received four awards at the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday.
 
Lee was born in Seoul before immigrating to the United States. He has directed episodes for television shows such as "Silicon Valley" (2014–2019), "2 Broke Girls" (2011–2017) and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" (2005–). His next project is the Marvel Studios film "Thunderbolts," also starring Yeun.
