Kodak, the 130-year-old film photography company known for its disposable cameras, has revamped its iconic film heritage into a stylish apparel brand. And the younger Korean generation can’t get enough.
Kodak Apparel opened its flagship store Kodak Corner Shop in buzzing Seongsu-dong, eastern Seoul, according to the brand's operator Highlight Brands on Friday.
In addition to shopping Kodak’s vintage-style clothing, customers can also experience the Kodak company’s film photography heritage in the store in separate zones designated for making customized goods and for music.
The Kodak Sound Zone will feature a playlist fit for the Kodak Apparel mood, which has been prepared in collaboration with Poclanos, an indie music distributor. Visitors can look at Kodak’s film photography and listen to the soundtrack in peace, without being required to make a purchase.
In the Custom Goods Zone, customers can choose among Kodak-branded graphic stickers to create their own T-shirts and tote bags — a service only available at the flagship Seongsu store.
The shop's aesthetics fit the camera brand's retro theme, with Kodak’s iconic yellow and red splashed on both the inside and exterior of the store. The interior is adorned with film photography, Kodak cameras and vintage lighting.
Kodak opened a popup store in Seongsu showcasing its brand archive for two weeks beginning in late May last year and drew more than 4,000 visitors. The new flagship store has more space for customers to immerse themselves in the history behind the century-old Kodak brand.
