NHN to foray into subculture games with Stella Fantasy

Action roleplaying game Stella Fantasy will be published globally by game publisher NHN, the company said on Tuesday. [NHN]

Game publisher NHN is trying its hand at subculture games with the inking of a global publishing deal for game developer Ring Games’ latest title, Stella Fantasy, the company said on Tuesday.

"Subculture games" refer to titles featuring Japanese anime-style characters.

Through the deal, NHN will have publishing rights for the game in all countries except for China.

Stella Fantasy is mobile-desktop cross-platform roleplaying game (RPG) currently under development by Ring Games that is expected to be released sometime within this year.

In the game, players will be able to choose from 12 anime-inspired characters to battle monsters and collect new characters as they embark on their quest. Players can also freely change characters in mid-battle to utilize their different skills, fighting techniques and weapons. The game will include competitive and non-combat content that players can profit from in the form of non-fungible tokens.

Ring Games was established in 2019 by game developers who led the success of the mobile RPG King’s Raid.

“NHN is taking on the genre of subculture games for the first time through Stella Fantasy,” said NHN’s Kim Sang-ho, head of gaming business, in a statement. “We are confident in the successful global launch and service of Stella Fantasy as NHN’s extensive publishing experience and game service know-how are combined with its unique gameplay.”
