Lotte Hi-Mart opens discount online store for university students, faculty

Lotte Hi-Mart opened Edu Mall, an online shopping mall offering electronic gadgets at a discounted price for university students and faculty.

Only university students and faculty will be able to enjoy the discounts as users can only log in with their university email, according to the company on Thursday.

Around 380 electronic gadgets by Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Apple and Microsoft are currently available on the website. The products will be discounted by up to 30 percent.

Home appliances such as rice cookers, vacuums and mini ovens are also up for sale.

Users can also sign up for product warranty insurance through the website, which covers products such as smartphones, refrigerators and air conditioners.

Lotte Hi-Mart also plans to sell software and video editing tools via the website, also offering student and faculty-exclusive discounts.

"We are offering a wide range of products, ranging from affordable brands to high-end ones, for students considering purchasing home appliances and electronic gadgets ahead of their new life in university," said Shin Hyun-chae, head of Lotte Hi-Mart's Smart Appliances Department. "Product warranty services will allow students to use the ones they bought now until they graduate, and I hope many students can benefit from our new store."
