Hyundai Elevator commemorated the 40th anniversary of its founding with companywide events and pledges by executives to establish the manufacturing company as the “global standard.”

“We worked hard for the last 40 years to catch up with global firms; from now on, we will focus on establishing ourselves as the standard,” the company's CEO, Cho Jae-cheon, said through a press release on Wednesday.

A celebratory event was held at the company’s headquarters in Chungju, North Chungcheong, on Wednesday, ahead of the company’s founding day on May 23. It was attended by Cho, Hyundai Group Chairman Hyun Jeong-eun, North Chungcheong Gov. Kim Young-hwan, Chungju Mayor Cho Gil-hyung and over 600 company executives, employees and guests, Hyundai Elevator said.

The event consisted of a ceremony announcing the company’s new environmental, social and governance (ESG) management slogan—“Work together and create value" — with a performance from a choir made up of people with disabilities, as well as a trash-collecting jog called "plogging" and a barbecue party.

The company’s new ESG slogan was created to encapsulate the company’s ambition to achieve sustainable growth along with its shareholders, according to Hyundai Elevator.

“Ever since the late honorary chairman Chung Ju-yung first laid the foundation 40 years ago, Hyundai Elevator has grown into an industry leader in Korea by continuously taking on challenges and innovating,” Hyundai Group Chairman Hyun said at the event. “Let’s become a company with 100 years of history through technological innovation.”

Hyundai Elevator is a Hyundai Group subsidiary founded in 1984 that manufactures elevators, escalators, moving walkways and parking systems. It made its global foray in 1993 with its Chinese subsidiary, Shanghai Hyundai Elevator.
