Two workers were killed and one was injured early Friday morning in a collision of two maintenance vehicles at Guro Station on Seoul Subway Line 1.

The Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) and local fire authorities reported that the workers were in a basket of a maintenance train car, replacing insulating structures. The accident occurred when they came into contact with a track inspection train moving along an adjacent track, causing them to fall to the ground.

The collision, which occurred at around 2:14 a.m. Friday, resulted in the deaths of two Korail employees, both in their 30s. Another Korail worker in his 50s sustained a leg fracture and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The accident caused delays on the Gyeongbu Line for 10 to 30 minutes, with services resuming normal operation around 5:40 a.m.

In response to the tragedy, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korail established an on-site accident response headquarters and are collaborating with the police to investigate how the collision occurred.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor is considering the application of the Serious Accident Punishment Act in this case.
