Yeonjun of the boy band Tomorrow X Together faced criticism after sharing photos taken in Japan on his social media on Thursday. Netizens deemed this insensitive given the historical significance of Liberation Day.
“I was careless in uploading a photo without respecting the historical significance and meaning of Liberation Day,” Yeonjun said on Weverse Friday. "I apologize to everyone who was hurt by my actions."
Felix of the boy band Stray Kids also drew criticism for mentioning a Japanese song while interacting with fans on Thursday. Felix apologized for his actions, stating, “I sincerely apologize for my lack of caution and the careless behavior shown on this meaningful Liberation Day. I am deeply reflecting on my inadequate historical awareness.”
Junseo of the boy band WEi faced backlash for responding casually in Japanese to a fan’s question in Korean on Thursday, leading to his apology. “I apologize to everyone who was hurt by my careless behavior,” he said. “I will study more in areas where I am lacking and ensure that such incidents do not happen again.”
In contrast, rapper Sean of the hip-hop duo Jinusean received positive reactions for his contributions to building homes for underprivileged descendants of independence fighters.
Sean participated in the annual “815 Run” marathon hosted by Habitat Korea, a nongovernmental organization that builds living spaces for those in need. The organization has raised approximately 4.5 billion won ($3.3 million) over the past four years and constructed 14 houses for the cause.
