San Diego Padres' Kim Ha-seong exits game with jammed shoulder

San Diego Padres’ Kim Ha-seong injured his right shoulder during the game against the Colorado Rockies Sunday, leaving the field in visible pain.

Kim was at first during the third inning after batting a single and dove back after the Rockies pitcher tried a pickoff. But he jammed his arm into the bag and was seen holding his shoulder as he paced around the field before heading back to the dugout.

“He’s dealing with something that’s going to require some time,” Padres manager Mike Shildt said after the game. Kim is set to undergo an MRI and will get the results Monday, according to Shildt.

Kim jammed his right shoulder last season, too, when sliding home during the third inning of a game against the Texas Rangers in July 2023.

He had been experiencing soreness in his right triceps earlier this month, briefly keeping him off the lineup.

Kim, 28, is in his fourth season with the Padres, who signed him to a four-year contract worth $28 million with a fifth-year mutual option. But it's unclear whether Kim will stay in San Diego. He became the first Korean player to win a Gold Glove in November 2023, winning the honor in the utility post, and has batted an average .233 so far this year.

He also spent seven seasons in the KBO, playing for the Nexen-renamed-Kiwoom Heroes from 2014 to 2020 before making his MLB debut with the Padres in 2021.

Sunday was a bad night for the team, too. The Rockies beat the Padres 3-2, ending San Diego’s streak of eight straight series wins at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado with the home side picking up two wins and one loss over the weekend.

The Padres next play the Minnesota Twins at Petco Park in San Diego, California.
