Hyundai chief speaks at Korea-U.S.-Japan dialogue

Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung speaks during the Trilateral Executive Dialogue (TED), an economic talk between Korea, the United States and Japan held at the Grand Hyatt Seoul in Yongsan District, central Seoul, on Wednesday.

Over 100 politicians and business leaders from three countries shared their thoughts on promoting cooperation in democracy, as well as on key industry sectors including strategic investment and energy cooperation.

Hyundai's Chung and Toyota Motor Chairman Akio Toyoda discussed possible cooperation in hydrogen and autonomous driving at the event. Toyota is the third-largest automaker in the world in terms of production volume.

Participants of this year's event included Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul, Trade Minister Cheong In-kyo, Hyundai's Euisun Chung and Ryu Jin, the chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries who also serves as the chairman of Poongsan Group.

The U.S. delegation included seven U.S. senators including Republican Bill Hagerty of Tennessee and Democrat Chris Coons of Delaware as well as Morgan Ortagus, a former spokesperson in the Trump administration.

Making the trip from Japan are various business magnates including executives of Toyota Motor, Denso and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone.

Organized by five international think tanks including the Woodrow Wilson Center, the Hudson Institute and the Indo-Pacific Forum, Wednesday's event was the second round of talks after the first edition launched in San Francisco last November.

Hyundai is one of the main sponsors of the dialogue for the second consecutive year.
