The Ministry of SMEs and Startups hosted a job fair for international students in North Chungcheong on Thursday, unveiling a new job-matching platform designed for students seeking employment in Korea.
The 2024 Chungbuk Job Fair for International Students was held at Chungbuk National University’s campus in Cheongju, North Chungcheong. Forty-six companies from the province attended, all able to assist job seekers in obtaining E-7 work visas and F-2-R regional specialized residency visas. Approximately 500 international students attended the event.
The SMEs Ministry promoted the newly launched K-Work Platform at the fair. This platform, which was announced by the ministry in July, connects international students with small- to mid-sized companies and startups. Through the platform, job seekers can upload their resumes and be contacted by companies interested in interviewing them. Students can also apply directly to job postings.
The ministry aims to simplify the visa process for students who secure jobs through the platform, providing letters of recommendation to assist with E-7-1 visa applications.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups is also collaborating with the Ministry of Education to expand employment support for international students. Currently, job postings for international students are also available on the Education Ministry’s Study in Korea website. The two ministries are exploring ways to link the platforms for easier access.
“This year, the number of international students in Korea surpassed 200,000 for the first time, and they need support from the local community to settle in Korea after graduation,” said Education Minister Lee Ju-ho. “We will work with local governments and universities to encourage talented international students to study and consider long-term residency in Korea.”
