&#91LETTERS TO THE EDITOR&#93Giving funds repeats error made in 1994

I would like to express my opinion about the North Korean nuclear power plant issue and what Roh Moo-hyun is doing about it. I believe that giving financial and economic aid in exchange for North Korea to close down the power plant is exactly what the United States did during the 1994 nuclear crisis with Pyeongyang, which has proven to be unsuccessful.

I think giving help to North Korea will just egg them on to repeat this way of attaining financial and economic aid. They will keep on running out of money if they continue to use all the funds they receive on weapons instead of helping their people. I am not saying that armed conflict is the solution to this dilemma, but I strongly believe that there are ways out of this predicament other than giving more support to the North Korean government.
