‘Baseball Week’ to celebrate 30 years of the sport in Korea

To mark the 30th professional baseball season in Korea, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has designated March 28-April 3 as “Baseball Week” and scheduled a series of events in celebration.

The week will kick off with a commemorative reception at The Shilla Seoul hotel at 6 p.m. next Monday. You Young-koo, commissioner of the KBO, will be joined by Ryozo Kato, the current commissioner of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and Chao Shou-Po, head of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) in Taiwan, in addition to former KBO leaders and other officials.

Next Tuesday the eight KBO clubs will hold their annual preseason media day and for the second straight year fans will be allowed to attend and ask managers or players questions.

From next Wednesday to Sunday, the KBO and Korea Sports Photographers’ Association will hold an exhibition in front of City Hall featuring baseball photographs. And next Thursday, NCsoft, a local online game company, will hold a press conference in Changwon, South Gyeongsang, to announce detailed operating plans for the league’s expansion team.

The 2011 season starts next Saturday with all eight teams in action.
