2011.7.1 Weekend Picks: KBO* Lotte Giants (28-3-36) at Samsung Lions (40-2-27)
* Daegu Baseball Stadium, Daegu
* Today, 6:30 p.m. / Saturday, Sunday 5 p.m.
The Lions quietly crept to the top of the KBO standings on Tuesday after beating the LG Twins and are looking to keep hold of the top spot this weekend against the Giants.
And good thing it’s rainy season - the Lions have been, for some reason or another, extremely successful during the late-June to late-July period the last couple years. From June 23 to July 25 in 2009 and last year, the Lions went 17-5 and 21-3, respectively. This year, they are 2-1 since June 23 - four games have already been postponed due to rain.
Samsung is generally considered the better pitching club, while the Giants, who have the great presence of first baseman Lee Dae-ho, are considered better at the plate.
The Busan-based Lotte team is tied first in home runs with 58.
