Park won’t seek new term as KOC head

Park Yong-sung, the president of the Korean Olympic Committee, said yesterday that he will not seek another term in the office.

In a statement, Park said that he has fulfilled all his assignments in his four-year term, which has seen impressive feats by the country including fifth place both in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics.

The 72-year-old Park, who is also the chairman of Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction, was previously reported to be willing to run for a second term, but his family is said to have dissuaded him due to health concerns. Park served as a member of the International Olympic Committee between 2002 and 2007.
