Belarus team thwarts Korea’s Olympic bid
The Korean women’s national basketball team came close to making its first Olympics appearance in eight years but was stopped by Belarus on Sunday after losing to the European team 56-39.
During the fifth-place playoff of the 2016 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Sunday, Lindsey Harding, Anastasiya Verameyenka and Tatyana Troina combined 39 points for Belarus.
Korea was unable to mount a comeback attempt, as its leading scorer Kang and its star center Park Ji-su were kept to a combined four points throughout the entire match.

Kim Hyun-soo goes 3-for-5 as Orioles top the Blue Jays
Kim Hyun-soo of Baltimore Orioles went 3-for-5 on Monday, tallying his 10th multi-hitting game of the season during the Orioles’ 40th season win. The Orioles edged the Toronto Blue Jays 11-6.
Kim batted second and played left field. His first hit came during his first at-bat at the bottom of the first. After the first batter Adam Jones reached first base with a hit, Kim singled on a line drive to center off the 92-mile-per-hour two-seam fastball by Blue Jays’ Marcus Stroman.
Kim grounded out during his next at-bat at the bottom of the third and added a single an inning later. Grounding out again at sixth, Kim carded yet another single at the bottom of the eighth inning. As of Monday, Kim’s record in the big league stands at a .340 batting average.
