Lee Sang-ho takes silver in parallel giant slalom finals

Snowboarder Lee Sang-ho picked up a silver at the International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup event at Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy on Saturday.

Lee finished just 0.82 seconds behind Roland Fischnaller of Italy in the parallel giant slalom finals. The silver marked Lee’s third career podium finish at the World Cup event. He had his first podium finish by picking up silver at the World Cup event in Erciyes-Kayseri, Turkey, back in March 2017.

Lee then made history at the PyeongChang Olympics by winning a surprise silver medal in the men’s parallel giant slalom race. The second-place victory was a historic one as he became the first Asian athlete to medal in an Olympic alpine snowboarding event and the first Korean to ever win a medal in a snow event.

Following the winter games, Lee added another bronze in the men’s parallel giant slalom at the World Cup even in Pyeongchang in February this year. The race was held at the same slopes that hosted the PyeongChang Olympics’ events.

Lee will continue his season by competing at the third World Cup race in Carezza, Italy, starting on Thursday, Dec. 19.
