코로나 19가 많은 것을 바꿔놓고 있는 가운데 주식시장도 예외가 아닙니다. 최근 주식시장에서 BBIG7라는 유행어가 생겼습니다. 주식시장을 주도하고 있는 바이오(bio), 배터리(battery), 인터넷(internet), 게임(game) 관련 기업 7곳을 가리키는 말입니다. 7곳은 올해 들어 시가총액이 많이 증가한 삼성바이오로직스, 셀트리온, 네이버, 카카오, LG화학, 삼성 SDI, 엔씨소프트입니다. 미국에는 FAANG이라는 말이 있는데 페이스북(Facebook), 애플(Apple), 아마존(Amazon), 넷플릭스(Netflix), 구글(Google))의 앞글자를 딴 말입니다.

시가총액이 뭔가요?

시가총액은 그 회사의 시장 가격이라고 할 수 있습니다. 그 회사가 발행한 주식 가격의 총합을 말합니다. 발행 주식 수에 주식의 가격을 곱해서 산출합니다. 주식은 주식회사에 투자한 사람들의 몫을 증서 형태로 만든 것입니다. 한국거래소에 등록된 회사의 주식은 누구나 사고팔 수 있습니다. 거래소에 등록하는 걸 상장한다고 말합니다. 아무 주식이나 상장할 수 있는 건 아니고 일정한 기준을 통과한 기업만 거래소에 상장할 수 있습니다. 앞으로 주가가 오를 거라고 생각되는 회사의 주식은 사람들이 비싼 값을 주고라도 사고 싶어 하기 때문에 점점 더 주가가 올라갑니다. 따라서 시가총액도 높아지게 됩니다. 시가총액은 그 회사의 미래 가치를 알 수 있는 지표이기도 합니다.

What is market capitalization?

Market capitalization is equivalent to the market value of a certain company. This is calculated by multiplying the number of shares by the price of a stock. A stock is a certificate representing the ownership of the shares held by investors of a listed company.

Any stocks issued by companies listed on the Korea Exchange can be bought and sold. The term ‘listing’ is used when a company registers with the Korea Exchange. It is not just any stock that can be listed, but only companies that pass certain criteria are allowed to list their shares on the Exchange. Stock prices are designed to keep going up if more investors flock to a certain stock primed to gain higher market value and are willing to pay higher prices. As a result, market capitalization also moves upward. Market capitalization can be considered as an indicator of future prospects and the value of a company

한국에서 시가총액이 높은 회사는 어디인가요?

현재 가장 시가총액이 높은 회사는 삼성전자입니다. 지난 7월 30일 기준 삼성전자 주식 한 개의 가격은 약 5만9000원이고 상장된 주식의 수는 약 60억 개입니다. 따라서 삼성전자의 시가총액은 주식 한 개 가격에 상장 된 주식 수를 곱한 약 350조원 정도가 됩니다. 우리나라 전체 주식시장에서 삼성전자가 차지하는 비중이 20% 가까이 됩니다. 2번째로 시가총액이 큰 기업은 SK하이닉스이고 그다음은 삼성바이오로직스, 네이버, 삼성전자 우선주, 셀트리온, LG화학, 카카오, 현대차, 삼성SDI 순서였습니다.

Which company in Korea has the highest market capitalization?

Currently, Samsung Electronics holds the highest market capitalization. As of July 30th, a share of Samsung Electronics’ stock was priced at 59,000 won, and the number of stocks that are currently listed amount to around 6 billion. Therefore, Samsung Electronics’ market capitalization, after multiplying the price of one stock by the number of outstanding shares, is priced around 350 trillion won.

Samsung Electronics accounts for about 20 percent of Korea’s stock market in terms of market capitalization. SK hynix holds the second highest market capitalization, followed by Samsung BioLogics, Naver, Samsung Electronics’ preferred stock, Celltrion, LG Chem, Kakao, Hyundai Motor, and Samsung SDI, in that order.

* market capitalization : 시가총액. market cap으로 줄여쓰기도 한다. 한 회사 주식 가격의 총합이다. 발행주식 수에 주식 한 주의 가격을 곱해서 산출한다. 그 회사의 시장 가격이라고 할 수 있으며 미래 가치를 반영한다.
* listing : 상장. 한 회사의 주식을 사고 팔 수 있는 시장인 증권거래소에 등록하는 것을 말한다. 일정한 기준을 통과한 기업들만 상장할 수 있다. 유가증권시장(코스피)은 규모가 크고 역사도 오랜 기업들이 주로 상장하는 시장이고, 코스닥은 규모는 작지만 성장 가능성이 높은 기업들이 주로 상장하는 시장이다.

시가총액은 왜 변화하나요?

사람들이 사고 싶어 하는 회사의 주식일수록 가격이 높아집니다. 코로나 19 이후 시가총액에는 큰 변화가 있었습니다. 바이오 기업인 삼성바이오로직스와 셀트리온, 인터넷 기업인 네이버와 카카오, 전기차 배터리 제조 기업인 LG화학, 삼성 SDI, SK이노베이션, 게임 기업인 엔씨소프트, 넷마블의 시가총액이 크게 높아졌습니다. 카카오는 처음으로 시가총액 10위권 안으로 들어왔습니다. 반면 자동차, 철강, 금융 등 전통적인 대형주들은 주가가 하락해서 10권 밖으로 밀려났습니다. 10년 전인 2010년 7월 30일 시총 10위는 삼성전자, 포스코, 현대차, 신한지주, 삼성생명, LG화학, 한국전력, 현대중공업, 현대모비스, KB금융 순서였습니다.

Why does the market capitalization change?

The more of the company’s stocks people want to buy, the higher its value becomes. Ever since the outbreak of Covid-19, there has been major changes at play for the ranking of market capitalization. Bio companies like Samsung BioLogics and Celltrion, internet firms including Naver and Kakao, electric-vehicle battery manufacturers like LG Chem, Samsung SDI and SK Innovation, and game developers NCSoft and Netmarble gained significantly in market capitalization.

For the very first time, Kakao has made it onto the list of the top ten market-cap companies. On the other hand, traditional large-cap stocks, such as automobiles, steel and financial firms, took a back seat. Ten years ago, on July 30th, 2010, Samsung Electronics, Posco, Hyundai Motors, Shinhan Financial Group, Samsung Life Insurance, LG Chem, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mobis , and KB Financial Group were on the list.
