China’s state-run Global Times has withdrawn an online article claiming K-pop boy band BTS enraged Chinese netizens by a recent acceptance speech for an award — shortly after Beijing’s Foreign Ministry called on the nation to “look forward to the future.”

중국 국영 글로벌타임스는 한국 아이돌그룹인 BTS가 최근 수상 소감에서 중국 네티즌들을 격분하게 만들었다고 주장하는 기사를 내렸다. 중국 외교부가 “미래를 내다보자”고 요청한 직후다.

An article on the outlet’s English website, however, remained uploaded Tuesday under the headline, “BTS hurts feelings of Chinese netizens and fans during speech on the Korean War.” As of Tuesday evening, there were 12 comments below the article, all in English, and mostly defending BTS.

하지만 화요일 현재 영어판 웹사이트에는 그 기사가 “BTS가 한국전쟁에 대한 발언에서 중국 네티즌과 팬들의 마음에 상처를 줬다”는 제목 아래 남아있다. 화요일 저녁 그 기사 아래에는 12개의 댓들이 있는데 모두 영어이며 대부분은 BTS를 옹호하는 내용이다.

The seven-member K-pop phenomenon made headlines in Korea Monday when local outlets went to town with stories that the group was coming under fi re from China for comments that BTS leader RM made as he and his members were receiving a prestigious award during a virtual awards ceremony.

7명의 멤버로 구성된 유명 K-팝 그룹 BTS가 명망 있는 상을 받으면서 리더 RM이 온라인 시상식에서 했던 말에 대해 중국으로부터 비난을 받고 있다는 언론 보도가 월요일 한국에서 대대적으로 나오면서 뉴스의 헤드라인을 장식했다.

BTS was given the Van Fleet Award by The Korea Society on Oct. 7 for their contributions to improving South Korea-U.S. relations.

BTS는 10월 7일 코리아 소사이어티로부터 한국과 미국의 관계 개선에 기여한 공로로 밴 플리트 상을 받았다.

Each member took turns giving remarks during the acceptance speech. Some Chinese media outlets including the Global Times reported that RM’s remarks enraged the Chinese public as he spoke about the “sacrifi ces” that “our two nations shared together” in the 1950-53 Korean War, apparently referring to South Korea and the United States.

Van Fleet) 장군을 기려 코리아 소사이어티가 1992년 제정한 상. 한·미 양국 간 이해와 협력, 우호 증진에 공헌한 개인이나 단체에 주어진다. 코리아 소사이어티는 한·미 양국 간 이해와 협력 진전을 위한 비영리 단체다. 지미 카터 전 미국 대통령, 헨리 키신저 전 미국 국무장관, 김대중 전 대통령, 반기문 전 UN 사무총장, 이건희 삼성전자 회장, 정몽구 현대차그룹 회장 등이 이 상을 수상했다.
