The hidden winners of the music streaming charts this fall are the original soundtracks (OSTs) from the popular Daum webtoon “She is My Type,” by cartoonist Roseong.

올가을 숨은 음원 강자는 로즈옹 작가가 그린 다음 웹툰의 인기 작품 “취항저격 그녀”의 OST다.

Started in April 2018, the accumulated views number up to 220 million, with reviews of 9.9 stars out of 10.

accumulated: 누적된, 쌓인

2018년 4월 연재를 시작해 누적 조회수 2억2000만회와 평점 9.9점을 기록하고 있다.

The webtoon began to collaborate with K-pop artists to release eight OSTs from July, all of which shot straight to the top of the music charts.

지난 7월부터 순차 발매한 OST 8곡이 모두 음원 차트 상위권에 진입하며 남다른 저력을 발휘했다.

Although it’s been almost three months since songs such as boy band B1A4’s Sandeul’s “Slightly Tipsy” or Super Junior Kyuhyun’s “The Moment My Heart Flinched” were released, they still remain within the top 10 rankings of most popular songs on the charts.

아이돌그룹 B1A4의 산들이 부른 “취기를 빌려”나 슈퍼주니어 규현이 부른 “내 마음이 움찔했던 순간”은 발매한지 2~3달이 지났는데도 음원 차트 상위 10위권을 유지하며 장기 흥행하고 있다.

The last OST, “Minimal Warm,” sung by Exo’s Chanyeol — who coincidentally has the same name as the male protagonist of the story — was released on Sunday.

마지막 OST는 일요일에 발매된 엑소 찬열의 “미니멀 웜”으로, 웹툰의 남자주인공의 이름이기도 하다.

The main reason why “She is My Type” was able to recruit such a star-studded line-up of K-pop artists for its OST is because of the establishment of a professional production company, Toon Studio.

“취향저격 그녀”의 OST가 이런 초호화 K팝 가수들로 구성된 라인업을 꾸릴 수 있던 이유는 툰 스튜디오라는 전문 제작사가 생겨난 덕이다.

Unlike television drama series, in which songs from their soundtracks are released in line with the airing of weekly episodes, the webtoon industry is “more fl exible in release dates and we're more open to the choices of artists," according to the executive producer of Toon Studio, Yoon Ye-seul.

툰 스튜디오 윤예슬 총괄 프로듀서에 의하면 매주 공개되는 회차에 맞춰 발매돼야 하는 TV 드라마 시리즈 OST에 비하여 “웹툰 OST는 발매 날짜가 더 유동적으로 바뀔 수 있고 아티스트 섭외에 더 열려있기 때문”에 더 발전 가능성이 크다.

“We cast K-pop group members with exceptional vocal skills and who have a tight fandom amongst people aged in their 20s who are also the main consumers of webtoons,” Yoon explained.

윤예슬 프로듀서는 “웹툰 주요 소비 계층인 20대 중후반에서 코어 팬층이 탄탄하고 아이돌 중에서도 가창력이 뛰어난 멤버들을 중심으로 섭외했다”고 설명했다.

“We also created a lot of content, such as having the artists live-record the songs and upload them on social media, which I think led to a good result.”

“라이브 레코딩 세션 등 다양한 콘텐트를 SNS에 함께 유통한 것이 좋은 결과로 이어진 것 같다”고 했다.
