Andaz Seoul Gangnam
Through Dec. 25: In celebration of the year's end, Andaz Seoul Gangnam presents four kinds of Christmas cakes from the A’+Z café, located on the lobby floor. This year, the pastry chef has prepared Bûche de Noël, Santa Claus Mousse Cake, Christmas Fresh Cream Cake and Christmas Cheese Cake.

First, the traditional Bûche de Noël cake, resembling a decorative Yule log, brings the message to burn bad things from the year and wish for good luck in the coming new year. It is made of a sheet of red velvet sponge cake with white chocolate cream, mascarpone cream and raspberry jam filling, for a sweet and fruity taste. The Santa Clause Mousse Cake, displaying Santa’s excited face, is made from a 100-year-old French Valrhona chocolate mousse recipe and features a raspberry, blueberry and strawberry cream layering, delivering a sweet harmony of dark chocolate and fruity berries.

The Christmas Fresh Cream Cake is a signature classic from Andaz Seoul Gangnam, made of white sheet cake and topped with mascarpone cheese, fresh cream and fresh strawberries. Lastly, the Christmas Cheese Cake, a best seller, features the rich and plentiful flavor of cream cheese layered on a chocolate sheet cake with cookie dough.

Besides the cakes, A’+Z also presents the traditional German and Italian Christmas stollen cake, panettone, gingerbread house with a chocolate tree and more traditional Christmas baked goods during the festive season.

Christmas Cakes are available at A’+Z café or via Naver Booking from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. Reservations must be made two to three days in advance. Cake prices range from 55,000 won ($51) to 78,000 won and other baked goods are available from 12,000 won to 98,000 won (10-percent tax included).

Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas
Reopened: Having completed an 11-month-long renovation project, the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas, located at the center of southern Seoul's Gangnam District, has reopened as a lifestyle hotel that sets new standards for a luxurious lifestyle. Following the refurbishment of the lobby and restaurant on the ground floor and shared facilities, including the Grand Ballroom that was completed in 2014, the hotel has now completely transformed after renovating the exterior of the hotel and all rooms from the seventh floor to the 33th floor. The InterContinental Club Lounge, which used to be located on the 26th floor, has now moved to the hotel’s top floor, the 34th, in a symbolic change that indicates the club’s upgraded services.

The hotel’s overall interior design was done by 1508 London, a British interior design group that was in charge of various interior design projects for five-star hotels in Europe and affluent Middle Eastern countries, including the Four Seasons. The interior creates an elegant mood and a distinctively luxurious atmosphere. With “Return to Nature,” “Balance” and “Crafted Detailing” as the key phrases behind the design, the spaces of the hotel have been redecorated with exquisite finishes and harmony among materials, drawing inspiration from the unique lines and warm colors of Korean culture.

All rooms of the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas are now fitted with panoramic full-wall windows, which give a 50-percent wider view compared to before the renovation. The exterior of the hotel has been upgraded to full-wall glass for a modern and sophisticated aesthetic. This glass, which has replaced the existing panels, has been reinforced with insulating bars for improved energy efficiency during the eco-friendly renovation project. With this new look, which harmonizes with the grand golden canopy on the ground floor, the hotel is expected to become a landmark that exudes the contemporary charm of the Gangnam area.

Thanks to the room renovations, the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas now welcomes guests with 16 types of 550 rooms that are tailored to various needs. Guests can choose from three room types: highly spacious Deluxe rooms, Junior Suite rooms suitable for various uses and private Top Suite rooms. With this new addition of 226 spacious suites of 60 square meters (equivalent to a minimum of 18 pyeong), the hotel now offers a more satisfying stay for guests who seek a relaxing so-called hotelcation, as well as long-term stay guests on business trips. Additionally, 20 rooms (Deluxe and Junior Suite) fitted with beds suitable for three to four guests are on offer to meet the needs of leisure-seeking and family guests, who are growing in number.

All rooms are equipped with Beautyrest beds, which were developed exclusively for the hotel in collaboration with Simmons and Parnas Hotel, with 100 thread count linen and Polish goose-down bedding for maximum comfort. In regard to amenities, items from eco-friendly brand Agraria, used by InterContinental hotels around the world, are provided. Luxurious British beauty brand Jo Malone is available for the rooms from the Club floor and above, and Hermès is available for the Corner Suite rooms and above.

Guests can enjoy the convenience of over-the-top services with a 55-inch LED UHD Smart TV (at minimum), regardless of the room type. Suite rooms and above also offer a clothing sterilizer so guests can disinfect and deodorize their clothes and other items with peace of mind.

The Presidential Suite, a suite at the top of its class, is located on the 33rd floor of the hotel and is equipped with everything a VIP needs. Overwhelmingly spacious with a 303 square meter surface area and a two-floor combined, four-meter-high ceiling, the suite, with its front and back combined layout, offers a view of both Teheran-ro and Bongeun Temple. It also has a separate treatment room where guests can enjoy using the Technogym treadmill and a Finnish-style dry sauna with comfort and privacy. As the suite comes with a living room equipped with a 77-inch OLED UHD gallery type TV, an elegantly decorated study and a dining room furnished with a built-in wine cellar, a fridge and a table that fits eight people, it can be used for a VIP-only social event or a luxurious product launch event.

“Club InterContinental,” exclusively available for guests on the Club floor, has now moved from the 26th floor to the hotel’s top floor, the 34th, and offers a view of the entire Gangnam area along with services. With a live kitchen newly added to the lounge, guests can be treated to instantly prepared cuisine that is tailored to them. For breakfast, a la carte items that satisfy different palates are on the menu, and in-room dining is also available upon request without extra charge. The afternoon tea service prepared for Club InterContinental members is served in a tea set from Royal Copenhagen that is known to be used by the Danish royal family.

After a long hiatus, modern Chinese restaurant “Weilou” on the 34th floor of the hotel, which won the World Luxury Restaurant Awards for three consecutive years, will welcome guests again in December. Buffet restaurant “Grand Kitchen” on the ground floor and traditional Japanese restaurant “Hakone,” which are popular among trendsetters, will also be ready to receive guests.

The Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas is holding various giveaway events during the month of December to celebrate the reopening of the hotel. All guests staying in the hotel in December are given a chance to enter a draw to win a room voucher, a buffet voucher or the hotel’s signature calendar. At the end of December, the hotel’s Instagram page will also hold a draw for prize winners among guests who uploaded a photo taken inside their hotel room with a hashtag.

Additionally, hotel restaurant guests in December can participate in the “True Luxury & True Gourmet Lucky Draw Event.” A dinner tour voucher that offers a chance to experience all of the hotel’s restaurants, a private dinner course and wine paring voucher for four at Chinese restaurant Weilou as well as other prizes are available in weekly draws for five weeks. Anyone who purchased from the hotel’s restaurants and bars is eligible for the event.
