Dai’s mother lies in a hospital bed while his father never seems to be around. Nine-year-old Dai is lonely, but soon makes new friends at a school he recently transferred to.

As he adjusts to life at a new school, he doesn’t get to see his mom often. Dai instinctively realizes that he’ll soon be saying goodbye to his mother. He wants to see his mom again, but is afraid the adults won’t allow him to. Instead, he decides to travel to the hospital with his friends, spending all the money he has to buy tickets.

Will Dai and his friends be able to reach his mom safely? Moreover, will they be able to get there in time?

Based on the popular Naver webtoon “Children are Happy” (translated), the original webtoon consisted of omnibus episodes revolving around Dai and his friends.

As Young-ho is preparing to take his third College Scholastic Ability Test without any clear purpose or dreams, he suddenly remembers a childhood friend and his crush from elementary school and blindly sends a handwritten letter.

So-hee hasn’t decided yet what she’s going to do with her life, and spends her time helping her mother run an old bookstore while taking care of her terminally ill older sister So-yeon.

One day she receives a letter addressed to So-yeon from Young-ho, and replies back in the place of her sick sister. She agrees to keep in contact under a few ground rules: He shouldn’t ask any questions, shouldn’t ask her to meet and shouldn’t visit her.

The exchange of letters brings new vivacity to their lives and Young-ho proposes that they should meet if it rains on December 31.

Actors Kang Ha-neul and Chun Wo-hee portray Young-ho and So-hee.
