Rookie girl group Weeekly's “After School” came in at No. 3 on Spotify’s list of the “10 Best K-Pop Songs of 2021,” unveiled Tuesday on the streaming platform’s social media accounts.
The list named hits from popular K-pop groups including aespa, ITZY, BTS and Twice. The rankings are decided according to streams of songs from Spotify’s “K-Pop Daebak” playlist, with aespa’s “Next Level” (2021) coming in No. 1.
“K-Pop Daebak” is Spotify’s first K-pop editorial playlist, which was launched in 2014. As of Dec. 24, the playlist has over 3.3 million followers.
“After School” also appeared on NME’s list of “The 25 best K-pop songs of 2021” on Dec. 20 and TIME magazine’s “The Best K-Pop Songs and Albums of 2021” on Dec. 9.
“For a group that’s a little over a year old, Weeekly haven’t wasted any time in establishing a trademark bright and bubbly sound that they can truly call their own,” NME said in the article.
“To listen to Weeekly’s ‘After School’ is to be injected with a dopamine boost,” TIME said.
Weeekly is a seven-member girl group that debuted in June last year with the song “Tag Me (@Me).” “After School,” the lead track from its third EP, “We play,” released in March, landed at No. 1 in Spotify’s Viral 50 Global chart.
