SBS announced Monday that the broadcasting company will collaborate with JYP Entertainment’s Park Jin-young to create Korea’s first-ever audition program for a choir.
According to SBS, the program will be Korea’s first “showchoir battle.”
“Showchoir” is a combination of two words – show and choir, according to SBS – “referring to a new genre that goes beyond a static chorus, combining singing with splendid performances.”
The winning choir will be dubbed the K-Choir and work together with Park, who will be one of the main judges of the show, to compete in international choir competitions.
Choirs with more than 16 and less than 28 members can apply to audition. The application deadline is May 2. Park appeared as a judge on SBS’s K-pop audition program, “K-pop Star” (2011-17) for all six seasons, “Loud” (2021) for boy bands and Mnet’s girl group survival show “Sixteen” (2015).
