2020 tvN drama series 'Flower of Evil' to get Indian remake
“Flower of Evil,” a 2020 tvN drama series that was produced by Studio Dragon, will be remade into an Indian drama series.
Studio Dragon, CJ ENM’s production subsidiary, announced Wednesday that it has sold the remake rights to Indian platform ZEE5 which is ready to broadcast its first episode on Aug. 19.
Jang Shin-ae, a chief producer at Studio Dragon said the remake of the Korean drama series in India is very meaningful as the Indian market has been one of the most difficult countries for Korean cultural content to enter due to the immense popularity of its own pop culture and western culture.
“I hope the drama series, which received favorable reviews for its unique combination of melodrama and thrills from Korean viewers, will become popular in India as well,” Jang said.
The Indian remake of the series will be titled “Duranga” and will have nine episodes. “Flower of Evil” had 16 episodes. ZEE5 said in a statement that it is happy to introduce Korean content and that “the intrinsic similarity to the vibrant Asian culture is enough for Korean content to have a huge fan base in India.”
The drama series was also sold to the Philippines and the remake version premiered on Kapamilya Channel’s Yes Weekend! and A2Z on June 25. The final 16th episode aired on Aug. 14.
“Flower of Evil” starred actor Lee Joon-gi as Do Hyeong-su, who is suspected of murder but is in fact innocent. Hyeong-su decides to live his life under a new identity with a new name in the hopes of having a “normal” life as a husband and father while trying to leave his dark past behind.
