Naver Z will team up with TRUE, the largest telecommunications company in Thailand, to attract more users and creators to the Zepeto metaverse service, the company said Thursday.

The Naver subsidiary signed a memorandum of understanding with TRUE on Wednesday at the Thai company's branding shop in Bangkok. Kang Hee-suk, head of business at Naver Z, and Birathon Kasemsri, chief content and media officer at TRUE, took part in the signing ceremony.

The details of the partnership have not been decided, but the two are expected to focus on marketing Zepeto in the local market to increase the number of both users and creators, according to Naver.

Up to 500,000 users have profited from creating and selling their own items on Zepeto so far. There are “millions of Zepeto users in Thailand,” the company said, without specifying the number.

“Through this partnership, we intend to lead Thailand into the metaverse by integrating TRUE’s vast digital ecosystem with Naver Z’s metaverse expertise,” said Kasemsri.

“Using Zepeto as a platform, we will provide a special future-oriented, online-to-offline experience that fits the lifestyle of Thai users and promotes Thailand’s soft power in metaverse content creation for Zepeto’s global audience.”

Zepeto saw over 20 million monthly active users around the world as of August 2022. Over 5 billion content creations have been made and 3 billion items have been sold to users.

Numerous fashion brands — including Bvlgari, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Nike and Christian Dior — and stars have held online events on Zepeto.
