Internet of Things-powered smart homes will be Samsung Electronics’ focus for the upcoming CES 2023 trade show, said Vice Chairman and CEO Han Jong-hee.

“At CES 2023, Samsung will present a new and expanded SmartThings experience that integrates your home ecosystem even more seamlessly with a system that is supported by enhanced security,” said Han in an editorial released on Thursday.

Centered on Samsung’s SmartThings device control service, the company will “explore easier and safer ways to connect devices and appliances, and how to make customized experiences for each user even more precise,” Han added.

Samsung Electronics set a target to reach 500 million users with its SmartThings service within five years, more than double the 230 million in September, during the IFA 2022 in Berlin.

The electronics maker also plans to display technologies to cut energy consumption.

“Saving energy through SmartThings and developing eco-conscious innovative products showcases how we are upholding our sustainable, forward-thinking values,” said Han.

Samsung declared it would invest $5 billion to go carbon neutral by 2050 in September.

During the IFA 2022, the company introduced its "net zero home" system concept to connect the SmartThings system with Hanwha Q Cells solar panels and energy storage system.

“We will continue to pave the way for the hyper-connected era, empowering consumers to help create a sustainable future by simply using Samsung products,” added Han.

Meanwhile, LG Innotek, an electronics part supplier, said on Thursday that it will showcase its automotive parts for electric vehicles and autonomous driving systems.

This is the first time for the company to hold an open booth at the tech fair.

Automotive parts such as camera modules for advanced driver assistance systems and also electronics components for renewable energy devices and semiconductors will be exhibited during the show.

LG Electronics plans to introduce a built-in refrigerator, which the company says has the largest storage capacity in the market, at CES 2023.

The upcoming Consumer Electrics Show, or CES 2023, will run for four days from Jan. 5 to Jan. 8 in Las Vegas.
