The Chung Mong-Koo Foundation announced Monday it has selected 13 international students to receive the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Global Scholarship.

Among the 13 recipients, six students are from Vietnam, four from Indonesia and one each from Cambodia, Myanmar and Malaysia.

"After studying business at Hanyang University, I want to establish a company that can open opportunities for Korea and Cambodia to work together," said Olyka, a student receiving the scholarship. "I feel strong responsibility as someone receiving the scholarship, and want to become a person that exerts positive influence in our society."

Twice a year, the foundation selects a group of international students from eight Asean countries — Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos — enrolled in a post-graduate course to receive the scholarship.

Students have to be attending one of the six universities the Chung Mong-Koo Foundation partners with, which are Seoul National University, Korea University, Yonsei University, Hanyang University, Kaist and the KDI Graduate School of International Policy. Those majoring in business, economics, science, engineering, Korean and Korean studies can apply.

Students who receive the scholarship are given full tuition until they graduate, a stipend of 12 million won ($9,100) per year, a special allowance of 2.5 million won upon arrival and another grant of 1 million won when completing their degree.

An additional 3 million won is given if the students publish in internationally accredited academic journals and 2.5 million won if students participate in international symposiums or conferences.
