Girl group NewJeans took the stage by storm at Summer Sonic 2023, one of the biggest music festivals in Japan, performing for 30,000 festivalgoers on Saturday.
The performance took place at the Zozo Marine Stadium in Tokyo at noon and was the girl group's first official performance in Japan.
The band performed 11 popular songs it has released since its 2022 debut during the 40-minute performance, ranging from its debut tracks "Cookie" (2022), "Attention" (2022) and "Hype boy" (2022) to its latest hits such as "Super Shy," "Cool With You" and "ETA."
"We were able to successfully finish our performance thanks you everyone here," the members told the crowd in Japanese. "Thank you for sticking around until the end. We are so happy to be here and we hope to see you again."
The invitation to Summer Sonic is particularly meaningful as the group had not debuted in Japan until then, according to the group's agency ADOR.
NewJeans's Korean debut was in August 2022, with the girl group quickly rising to the top of the charts since then with its easy-going yet high-quality music that has been loved by listeners around the world.
