Lies of P wins Grand Prize at Korea Game Awards

Lies of P, a PC and console role-playing game (RPG) developed by Neowiz’s subsidiary Round8 Studio, won the Grand Prize at the Korea Game Awards held at Busan’s Bexco on Wednesday.

The title has an 89 percent positive review score on Steam and has recently sold more than 1 million units globally within a month of its release.

Set in the late 19th century, Lies of P is a “soulslike” game, a subgenre of dark fantasy games that are usually very difficult to conquer.

Eleven candidates competed for the top prize, including Grand Cross: Age of Titans, Tower of God: New World and Seven Knight Idle Adventure developed by Netmarble, Dave the Diver, Wars of Prasia and Warhaven by Nexon, Night Crows by Madngine, Goddess of Victory: Nikke by Shift Up, Eversoul by Nineark, Crossfire: Sierra Squad by Smilegate and Lies of P by Neowiz.

The Excellence Award went to the PC and console RPG Dave the Diver. Best games awards were handed to the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Night Crows, RPG Goddess of Victory: Nikke and first-person shooter Crossfire: Sierra Squad.

The announcement came a day before the opening of the 2023 G-Star gaming festival on Thursday, organized by the Korea Association of Game Industry (K-Games).

The Culture Minister Yu In-chon visited the Korea Game Awards and promised to give “full support” to stimulate the game industry. It marks the first time in four years since the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism visited the award ceremony.

“As President Yoon Suk Yeol mentioned the ‘loot box’ system [last week], he is very much interested in the ecosystem of the game industry,” Yu said. “The ministry will make an effort to get the government’s attention toward the industry to propel the market forward.”
