Korea and the Philippines promised to work together to reinforce their music copyright management during the 2023 Korea-Philippine Copyright Forum.

The 2023 Korea-Philippine Copyright Forum took place on Wednesday in Manila, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines and conducted by the Korea Copyright Protection Agency (Kcopa).

This year's forum topic was "the music copyright industry and new opportunities in the digital era," aiming to develop both countries' music copyright markets and to exchange and cooperate in related areas.

Some 80 people, including copyright experts and people from trust management organizations, gathered around to discuss copyright laws, systems, policies and technology.

After the main forum, a meeting was held to reinforce the countries' music copyright management. Participants shared their experiences regarding fees on digital copyrights and its related rights and discussed how to expand and distribute the collected fees.

A memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two countries, such as blocking access to copyright-violating sites, is slated to be signed with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines the following day, according to the agency.

"[The forum and copyright events were held] to meet the request of establishing copyright protections overseas by K-content export businesses due to the global content distribution," Park Jung-youl, the president of Kcopa, said.

"The agency will continue reinforcing the global cooperation system and creating efficient copyright protection measures."
