"Cobweb" director Kim Jee-woon won the Best Director Award at the 28th Chunsa Film Arts Awards on Thursday.

"The fact that this award is given by fellow directors makes it all the more meaningful," Kim said at the event. "'Cobweb' is not just a love letter and a tribute to film directors, but to creators and those who confront unbearable realities and overcome them."

Kim added, "It's a film made in tribute to the times and the breakthroughs of Korean cinema. I pledge to be a director who diligently follows in the footsteps of their great journey."

"Cobweb" revolves around an obsessive film director and confused actors during the 1970's, when censorship was at its peak in Korea.

The film was also invited to the non-competitive section of the 76th Cannes Film Festival that took place from May 16 to 27.

Actors Song Kang-ho, Lim Soo-jung, Krystal Jung, Oh Jung-se and Jeon Yeo-been starred in the film. Jung received the Best Actress Award at the Chunsa Film Festival.

The Chunsa Film Arts Awards, organized by the Korean Society of Cinematographers, are held annually to commemorate filmmaker and actor Na Woon-gyu (1902–1937), who is regarded as one of Korean Cinema's forefathers.

Chunsa is Na's art name.
