EXO's Christmas classic 'The First Snow' tops music charts 10 years after release

It's getting colder day by day, and the holiday season is approaching — it's time for winter-themed songs to rise again.

"The First Snow," EXO's 10-year-old winter-themed song released back in 2013, climbed up the charts and sat atop Melon's Top 100 as of Sunday and Melon's Daily chart on Wednesday — making it the first time the song ranked No. 1 on Melon's charts since its release 10 years ago, and the first boy band track in 2023 to top Melon's Daily chart.

The song also topped Bugs's real-time charts and landed No. 2 on Flo's real-time chart.

"[EXO members] congratulated together after 'The First Snow' topped the chart 10 years after its release," EXO's leader Suho said in a press release Thursday.

"We were surprised at first [...], but now all the members are enjoying the situation. It's all down to EXO-L, we thank you, and we love you all," he said.

EXO-L is the band's official fandom.

"I hope you have a warm [holiday season], listening to 'The First Snow' and [EXO] will return with even better music and stages next year."

While "The First Snow," with its sentimental and warm tones, has been a popular "K-pop carol" for many years, the song went viral this year with the "First Snow" challenge.

The challenge, featuring the song's chorus and fan-made dance moves, went viral among K-pop fans and idols on TikTok and other short-form video platforms.

Many top K-pop idols have participated in the challenge, including boy bands NCT Dream, NCT 127, Enhypen, Vanner, ZeroBaseOne and Ateez, girl groups aespa, Red Velvet, IVE, ITZY and more.

EXO members themselves have joined the challenge, with EXO's subunit EXO CBX, Sehun, Chanyeol and Suho doing the challenge.

Celeb Confirmed also opened a poll Thursday on who did the challenge the best. Vanner is currently leading the poll with 197 votes.
