Paradise Hotel Busan

Feb. 29: Paradise Hotel Busan in the southern port city's Haeundae District is collaborating with a winner of the World Cocktail Battle who will be serving three special cocktails at the hotel on Feb. 29.

The 2022 winner of the Seoul Bar & Spirit Show's competition Kim So-yeon will be offering three cocktails at Paradise Hotel Busan's Bar NYX: Hanky-Pinky No. 2, which is an upgraded version of the cocktail that won her the title of Best Bartender two years ago; Queen of Scotland cocktail; and Jeju Signal Punch.

Kim is currently bartending at Bar Geranium in Gangnam District, southern Seoul. The bar is best known for infusing organic scents into its cocktails.

"In line with the drinking trend among Millennials and Gen Z who opt to enjoy alcohol instead of getting drunk on it and are interested in trying new types of drinks, the hotel has decided to move forward with this collaboration," a Paradise Hotel Busan employee said in a press release. "I hope people can cross out some drinks on their alcohol bucket list with exotic cocktails with the flair of Bar NYX."

Sofitel Ambassador Seoul Hotel

Through March 31: Sofitel Ambassador Seoul Hotel in Songpa District, southern Seoul, opened a new whisky bar along with six constellation-themed cocktails at its Latitude32 rooftop bar on the 32nd floor.

The whisky bar named Eau de Vie translates to “water of life” in French and offers traditional and premium whiskeys from around the world, as well as small plates and finger food.

The bar is offering discounted prices on premium whiskeys including the Glenmorangie Signet and Johnny Walker Blue Label in celebration of the bar opening. The promotional event will continue through March 31.

The six new cocktails at Lassitude32 complement the bar’s space theme. Inspired by different constellations, the new editions include the Leo cocktail, the Scorpio cocktail and the Capricornus cocktail.

The drinks are also exciting in form, according to the hotel. The structure of the Sagittarius cocktail is inspired by the image of Hercules shooting an arrow at the heart of his teacher Chiron, as it incorporates a mini syringe that, upon injection, changes the color of the drink to resemble the poison spreading inside Chiron’s heart.

The constellation cocktails are also made in collaboration with AR character Peary. Guests can scan the QR code of the cocktails and a corresponding Peary will pop up on their Instagram camera filters.

Reservations can be made by phone or online through the local search platform Naver.

Parnas Hotel Jeju

Through March 31: Parnas Hotel Jeju’s premium strawberry buffet is continuing to attract tourists and locals alike.

Dubbed the Strawberry Garden, the buffet opened Jan. 13 and operates every weekend and on holidays.

About half of the guests are Jeju locals, some of whom have permanently moved to the island from other regions in Korea or abroad, according to the hotel.

“I still find Jeju Island’s food new and delicious, but I sometimes miss dishes that I used to eat in Seoul, and one of those things was the strawberry buffet,” Lee Ji-young, who moved to Jeju two months ago, told Parnas Hotel Jeju.

All the strawberries at the buffet are locally grown, and customers can enjoy endless desserts including strawberry eclairs, mousse, madeleines, mini tarts and choux. There is also a live strawberry crepe flambé station and 20 entrees such as a club sandwich and grilled vegetable bruschetta.

The buffet is 68,000 won per adult. Those who reserve through Naver can get a 10 percent discount. Customers who chose the premium option for an additional 30,000 won will receive steak and lobster dishes in addition to the strawberry dishes.

“It was indeed difficult to find a steady stream of fresh, premium strawberries to Jeju because of the island’s geographical location,” a hotel employee said in Parnas Jeju’s press release. “But the hotel was able to cut exclusive deals with local strawberry farmers through persistent efforts, and we plan to further expand our strawberry-related promotional events and services to provide Jeju Islanders as well as visitors with a gastronomic experience.”

The Strawberry Garden buffet continues through March 31 at the hotel’s Fondmer Lounge.
