Lucas, formerly a member of boy bands NCT U and WayV, will start his solo artist career with his single “Renegade” on April 1.
The singer makes his comeback as a musician in over two years and a half since he went on an “indefinite hiatus” in August 2021 following allegations of him emotionally abusing and cheating on multiple women, which he admitted to. He left the band NCT and its subunits WayV and NCT U in May 2023.
Lucas’s first single, “Renegade,” will consist of three English songs, including the title track “Renegade,” according to SM Entertainment on Monday.
The title track will fuse hip-hop and rock elements, SM Entertainment said.
“The lyrics contain the singer’s change in a better direction and his determination to walk his own path without hesitation,” the agency said. “The guitar riff and the powerful beat amplifies the song’s message of ‘pioneering one’s own life.”
Lucas debuted as a member of NCT in 2018. He has also been a member of SM Entertainment's male project boy band SuperM since 2019.
“Freeze,” a documentary on Lucas during his hiatus, was released in February. The singer addressed his physical and mental health during his hiatus and the controversies surrounding him.
