South Jeolla invites 76 international students to its vocational high schools next March

The South Jeolla Office of Education has selected 76 international students to study at the province's vocational high schools starting in March next year, with plans to invite more in the upcoming years.
 
Of the 76 students, 34 are from Vietnam, 30 from Mongolia, four from the Philippines, four from Indonesia and four from Cuba, said the education office on Tuesday.

A total of 24 students will be studying at Mokpo Girls' Commercial High School, enrolled in either the AI content major or the nursing major. Another 24 will attend Gurim Industrial High School, focusing on electrical engineering or hanok (Korean traditional house) construction.

 
Ten students will study agriculture and horticulture at Jeonnam Life Science High School, while another 10 will learn about Korea's horse industry at Korea Horse Industry High School. Eight students will focus on aquaculture, fisheries processing and fishing vessel management at Wando Fisheries High School. 
 
The selected students are currently taking Korean classes at King Sejong Institute Centers and Korean Language Schools in their home countries. They will take a Korean proficiency test in December, and those who pass will be able to study at South Jeolla high schools.
 
The South Jeolla Education Office has been inviting international students through partnerships with educational institutes abroad and introducing the opportunity during study abroad fairs held in other countries.
 
"We will offer our utmost support to talented international students to help them adapt to student life in Korea, enabling them to learn professional skills and eventually secure jobs at local companies and settle down in South Jeolla," said Jung Byeong-guk, head of the education office's educational governance division.
 
The education office plans to invite another 90 international students to enroll at its vocational high schools in March 2026. The Jeonnam Glocal Vocational High School, a tentative name, is also set to open in the province by March 2028. This high school will cater to students from abroad as well as those from multicultural backgrounds in Korea.
