Exciting news for moviegoers as the talk around the town is that Korean film director Na Hong-jin of the hit film “The Wailing” (2016) is teaming up with popular Thai filmmaker Banjong Pisanthanakun tocreate a new movie “Rangjong” (working title).

영화 팬들 사이에서 흥미로운 소식 하나가 장안의 화제다. 2016년 흥행작 ‘곡성’의 나홍진 한국 영화 감독과 태국의 유명 감독 반종 파산다나쿤 감독이 협력하여 새 영화 ‘랑종’(가제)를 만든다.

“Rangjong” means “psychic” in Thai.

Fans of Na’s previous hit “The Wailing” have been highly anticipating his next movie and “Rangjong” arrives “just in time,” said the film’s distribution company Showbox on Wednesday.

나홍진 감독의 이전 히트작 ‘곡성’의 팬들은 그의 다음 작품을 몹시 기대하고 있었고 ‘랑종’이 “적기에 도착한다”고 배급사 쇼박스가 수요일 전했다.

It added that “Rangjong” is Na’s “global project with the Thai director, who opened a new chapter in horror movies in Thailand.”

또한 ‘랑종’은 “태국 공포 영화의 새 지평을 연 태국 감독과 함께하는 나 감독의 글로벌 프로젝트”라고 했다.

Pisanthanakun found early success in his 20s with his first two films “Shutter” (2004) and “Alone” (2007).

파산다나쿤 감독은 20대에 첫 두 작품 ‘셔터’(2004)와 ‘샴’(2007)으로 일찍부터 성공을 거두었다.

His 2003 comedy romance film “Pee Mak” became the first movie in Thailand to attract 10 million viewers, earning him recognition as the country's star director.

그의 2003년 로맨스 코미디 ‘피막’은 태국 최초로 천만 관객을 동원하며 태국의 스타 감독으로 인정을 받았다.

The collaboration of the two popular directors has caught the attention of the film industry in other parts of the world too.

French distributor The Jokers Films is reported to have already decided to distribute “Rangjong” in France.

The Jokers Films is one of the first distributors that highly praised Korean films like “Parasite” (2019) and “The Handmaiden” (2016) at the Cannes International Film Festival.
