BTS’s 'Butter' remains at No. 1 on Billboard singles chart
BTS’s second English-lyric track “Butter” topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the ninth time this week — the most times for a song to take the chart’s top spot this year, according to Billboard on Monday.
As of this week, “Butter” beat American singer Olivia Rodrigo’s song “Drivers License,” which had topped the chart for eight consecutive weeks between January to March.
“Butter,” which dropped on May 21, had seven consecutive weeks at No. 1, missing the top spot once in July due to the band’s new song “Permission to Dance” (2021) entering the chart at No. 1. The following week, “Butter” returned to the highest rank where it remained this week again.
BTS songs have topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the past ten weeks.
This is BTS’s 15th time at No. 1: three times with “Dynamite” (2020), once each with "Savage Love (Laxed-Siren Beat)" (2020), “Life Goes On" (2020) and “Permission to Dance,” and nine times with “Butter.”
Meanwhile, “Permission to Dance” fell from last week’s No. 7 to No. 9 this week.
“Thank you for always giving so generously to us,” the group’s leader RM wrote to fans on fan community platform Weverse. “[The song] is ours, but we always remind ourselves that it actually belongs to you all.”
