Boy band Newkidd member Kim Jin-kwon has been cast as a lead in the upcoming HBO Max original drama "Além do Guarda-Roupa," according to his agency J-FLO Entertainment on Tuesday.
On Monday, 10x Entertainment agency announced that Kim Woo-jin, a former member of the boy band Stray Kids, will also star as a lead in the same series.
Kim Jin-kwon and Kim Woo-jin will be the first Koreans to portray lead roles in an HBO Max original series.
"Além do Guarda-Roupa" (translated to ‘Beyond the Wardrobe’) tells the story of a teenage girl who finds a teleporting portal in a closet and meets a K-pop idol band in Seoul through the portal.
Kim's character of Dae-ho is a member of the fictional K-pop boy band Act.
The series is set to air sometime in 2023 via video streaming platform HBO Max.
Kim Jin-kwon, 21, debuted as an actor first in 2018 through the web drama "After school dating" (translated). He also starred in the Netflix drama "To My Star" in 2021.
In the K-pop scene, Kim debuted as the leader of the seven-piece boy band Newkidd in 2019. The band has released two EPs "Newkidd" (2019) and "Come" (2019) so far. Though the band has not disbanded, it has not released any new music since 2019.
